 演題:Atomically Precise Surface Metallization and Ligand Effects of Carbon-Centered Hexagold(I) Clusters

 講演内容:
Metal clusters are atomically precise molecules at the nanoscale. Central issues in the study of metal clusters are rational modulation of their properties to gain insight into the structure-property relationship. Based on the surface structures of carbon-centered hexagold(I) clusters, the following three approaches have been developed toward the goals: (1) “add”: by modifying the phosphine ligands with extra binding sites, and then introducing different numbers of silver ions, a rigid and complete metal-organic protective layer is constructed, and the clusters exhibit intense photoluminescence in solution with near-unity quantum yields. (2) “replace”: by using N-heterocyclic carbene (NHC) ligands with stronger electron-donating ability, instead of phosphine ligands, carbon-centered hexagold(I) clusters with a similar structure but significantly altered photophysical properties are synthesised, which contributes to the further development of ligand effect. (3) “replace” + “add”: by functionalizing the NHC ligands with extra coordination sites, silver ions are allowed to be incorporated on the surface of clusters, which endows the clusters with adatoms-dependent photoluminescence and intriguing biological properties. These approaches are expected to be highly applicable in many metal cluster systems.
