2014 Asian SOFC Symposium and Exhibition (Writer: Yihan Ling)

2014 Asian SOFC Symposium and Exhibition in Korea (21th-24th of September 2014)

The conference of 2014 Asian SOFC Symposium and Exhibition can provide an Asian regional forum for scientists, engineers and technologists to discuss the latest developments and to share knowledge in the discipline of Solid Oxide Fuel Cells (SOFCs), and is held by the turn of China-Korea-Japan every two years. I was invited to join this conference and traveled to Busan to give a poster presentation of my work in Amezawa-lab (Thermal and chemical expansion of the Ruddlesden–Popper type oxide Sr3Fe2O7-δ). It is well known that SOFCs are promising systems for clean and efficient power generation from a variety of fuels including hydrocarbons and renewable-/coal-derived fuels. Significant progress has been made by the presentation in the areas of materials, cell/stack designs, component fabrication, simulation, fuel processing, and systems operation.

The conference was hosted by Prof. Gyeong Man Choi and local organizing committee. On Monday night we enjoyed the comfortable welcome party at the conference place (BEXCO) and had a simple discussion with some participants. On Tuesday and Wednesday, the presentations given not only from Asia but also from other regions were an excellent opportunity to exchange the research progress in the SOFCs field. For the poster presentation, some famous professors such as Prof. Sossina M.Haile, Prof. Zongping Shao given some comments and were invited to take a group photo to make the occasion. We enjoyed the celebrate party on Wednesday night and visited the SOFCs-based power generating company on Thursday. There was a dinner party with some Chinese participants get-together. Good times!
