International Excellence PI Laboratory (Terrones Lab) Hosts International Symposium

An international symposium entitled “Frontiers in Low-Dimensional Materials and Advanced Carbons,” organized by the Low-Dimensional Functional Materials Laboratory (Terrones Lab), Internationally Outstanding PI Laboratory, was held on September 25, 2026, at Tohoku University’s Katahira Campus, under the auspices of the Institute of Multidisciplinary Research for Advanced Materials (IMRAM).

Focusing on low-dimensional materials and advanced carbon materials, the symposium featured lectures by Professor Mauricio Terrones, an Internationally Outstanding PI, Professor Hiroki Ago of Kyushu University, Specially Appointed Professor Katsumi Kaneko of Shinshu University, and Professor Eijiro Miyako and Associate Professor Wei Yu of IMRAM.

The speakers presented a broad range of recent research, including the synthesis of carbide–dichalcogenide heterostructures and their applications in superconductivity and electrocatalysis; the synthesis and electronic applications of 2.5D materials; energy and separation science based on carbon nanostructures; biomedical applications of nanocarbons; and mesoporous carbons for advanced battery applications.
