Summary:When activated carbons are heat-treated at a high temperature, their porosity and the amount of edge sites are both decreased. While the porosity loss is not advantageous for many applications, the edgeless property is preferable for electrochemical stability. This work revealed that the optimized edgeless carbon shows excellent performance for lead-carbon battery applications.

Summary:In this work, we report a volatilization-dissolution strategy to supply a redox mediator (RM), 2,2,6,6-tetramethyl-1-piperidinyloxy (TEMPO), via O2 atmosphere (TEMPO-O2) outside an assembled cell. Thanks to the continuous redox mediation of volatile TEMPO and the suppression of the RM’s shuttle effect, the Li-O2 battery demonstrates an ultra-long cycle life of 400 cycles (1600 h) at 250 mA g−1 under TEMPO-O2 atmosphere.

Summary:A self-supported, binder-free and scalable nanoporous carbon scaffold serves as an excellent host for the efficient and uniform atomic layer deposition of Pt nanoparticles, showing exemplary performance as a cathode catalyst layer in a PEM fuel cell.
Summary:The mechanism of transition-metal-free methane activation on MgO was compared with that on γ-alumina to elucidate the production process of porous nanographene. In both cases, oxygen-vacancy sites are formed on the surface of metal oxides, and catalyze graphene growth from methane. Thus, MgO functions a cost-effective replacement of the conventional γ-alumina to produce single-walled nanoporous graphene, graphene mesosponge (GMS).
Summary:Ordered carbonaceous frameworks with developed pores were synthesized. Single-site metals are regularly arranged in the framework like metal-organic frameworks. The prepared materials possess a mechanically flexibility. This unique property is expected to open up new applications like a new type of switching material and a force-responsive electrocatalyst.
Summary:The lamellar MXene/CNT composite aerogel composed of interconnected and parallel-aligned MXene/CNT/MXene sandwiches was prepared by a unidirectional freeze-drying method. The lamellae of MXene/CNT/MXene sandwiches form multiple physical barriers, coupled with chemical trapping and catalytic activity of the MXenes, effectively suppressing lithium polysulfide (LiPS) shuttling even for the high sulfur loading lithium-sulfur batteries.
Summary:High density nanoporous pellets with excellent mechanical strength were prepared by hot-pressing of zeolite-templated carbon mixed with a small amount of graphene oxide. The pellets exhibited anomalously high N2 adsorption amount at 77 K and high volumetric storage amount of H2 at 298 K.
