Tohoku University & Ewha Womans University Joint Symposium 2026

The Tohoku University & Ewha Womans University Joint Symposium 2026 was held at the Institute of Multidisciplinary Research for Advanced Materials (IMRAM), Tohoku University, from July 26 to 28. A total of 45 researchers and students participated in the symposium, including 9 faculty members and 10 students from Ewha Womans University, as well as 11 faculty members and 15 students from Tohoku University. The symposium featured lively discussions on research topics that are expected to promote future academic exchange and foster collaborative research between the two universities.

The symposium featured keynote lectures by Prof. So-Jung Park and Associate Prof. Taeyoung Choi from Ewha Womans University, entitled “Dynamic Nanostructures through Assembly of Nanoparticles and Functional Polymers” and “Trapped Ion-based Quantum Computing and Sensing”, respectively, as well as by Prof. Yuichi Negishi and Associate Prof. Shun Dekura from Tohoku University, entitled “Atomically Precise Metal Clusters: A Platform for Rational Catalyst Design” and “Intrinsic Proton Conduction in Molecular Assemblies Based on Molecular Internal Degrees of Freedom”, respectively. In addition, invited lectures were delivered by 12 researchers from Ewha Womans University and Tohoku University.

A Short Presentation Competition featuring 25 students from both universities was also held. Students who delivered outstanding presentations were recognized with the Best Presentation Award, the Presentation Award, and the Student Encouragement Award.

Student Encouragement Award

Following the symposium, participants joined an excursion to NanoTerasu, one of the world’s most advanced synchrotron radiation facilities.

The symposium was held as part of an academic exchange program under the interdepartmental MOU between Ewha Womans University and IMRAM, Tohoku University.
