Job description summary: Developing advanced material structure measurement techniques using X-rays and conducting fundamental research in this field. Specifically, advancing X-ray structural analysis methods using X-ray free-electron lasers, high-brightness X-rays from 4th -generation synchrotron radiation facility, and laboratory X-ray sources. This includes capturing ultrafast phenomena, visualizing charge density distributions, and measuring materials under special conditions. Research and development will also focus on cutting-edge precision structural analysis techniques and their application to materials science and related fields.

3. Required qualifications and Conditions: Candidates must possess or be expected to possess a doctoral degree.

4. Start Date: August 2026, and as soon as possible thereafter. (The starting date will be determined as soon as the recruitment procedure is completed.)

5. Salary and Benefits
(1) Salary: Based on the Salary Regulations of Tohoku University Allowances will be paid in accordance with Regulations on Employees Salary at National University Corporation Tohoku University
(2) Employment status: Full Time
(3) Term of office: tenured.
(4) Hours: The discretionary labor system for professional work shall apply. Flexible Work Hours: The standard working hours are 8:30 to 17:15, but the actual working hours are at the discretion of each employee.
(5) Holidays: Saturdays, Sundays, National Holidays, New Year’s Holidays (Dec. 29 – Jan. 3)
(6) Insurance: Successful individuals will be enrolled as a member of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology Mutual Aid Association which will also provide health insurance for any dependents. Tohoku University will also provide pension insurance, employment insurance as well as industrial accident compensation insurance.

  • Original peer-reviewed papers (Mark “○” for those where the applicant was the primary investigator).

  • Invited lectures (Distinguish between international and domestic conferences).

(3) Abstracts of 10 major papers (Approx. 500 characters in Japanese or 200 words in English; include DOI codes and citation counts for each)
(4) Summary of Past Research and Teaching activity (Approx. 2,000 characters in Japanese or 800 words in English) and Future Research and Teaching Plans (Approx. 2,000 characters in Japanese or 800 words in English).
(5) External Funding and Awards and other relevant information.
(6) References: Names and contact details (affiliation, address, phone, email) of four individuals who can provide opinions on the applicant. At least one must be from Japan and one from overseas.

  • The successful candidate will also hold a joint appointment as a Professor at the Graduate School of Science (Department of Physics) and the Faculty of Science (Department of Physics), and will be responsible for graduate and undergraduate education.
