Job description summary:
This specially appointed researcher/assistant professor will join the Institute of Multidisciplinary Research for Advanced Materials, Tohoku University, to research on the exploration of new Li or Na ion conducting inorganic solids and design principles of solid-state ionic materials. In particular, the research focus will be put to fill the gap between various materials classes such as oxides, sulfides, and halides, and also different form of materials, e.g., crystalline, amorphous and composites, in collaboration with Assoc. Prof. Saneyuki Ohno. Based on better mechanistic understanding gained through the above-mentioned research, the ultimate goal is to realize and further develop the key materials for solid-state energy storage devices. Research experience on solid-state batteries is preferred but not required if the candidates possess sufficient experience and research records in materials science, electrochemistry, or solid-state chemistry/physics. We are looking for people willing to actively expand their research areas and eager to work with those willing to lead the field of energy storage.

3. Job description: A Successful candidate will be engaged in research on developing new ion conducting solids
for solid electrolytes and solid-state battery applications.
4. Required qualifications and Conditions: Candidates must possess or be expected to possess a doctoral degree.
5. Start Date: October 1, 2024, and as soon as possible thereafter. (The starting date will be determined as soon as the recruitment procedure is completed.)
6. Salary and Benefits:
(1) Salary: to be determined in accordance with Tohoku University’s employment regulations.
  Approximately 5,500,000~ JPY per annum for assistant professor
  Depending on circumstances, allowances for transport may be provided.
(2) Employment status: Full Time
(3) Term of office: Non-tenured. From the date of hire to September 30, 2025 (with the possibility of renewal depending on budget status)
*This term will be renewed annually upon consideration of the budget situation, the progress of the work engaged, workload at the end of the contract period, work performance, work attitude, health situation, and other factors. (4) Hours: The discretionary labor system for professional work shall apply.
  Flexible Work Hours: The standard working hours are 8:30 to 17:15, but the actual working hours are at the discretion of each employee.
(5) Holidays: Saturdays, Sundays, National Holidays, New Year’s Holidays (Dec. 29 – Jan. 3)
