About Sendai

Sendai is locatred 340 km north from Tokyo on the Pacific coast of Tohoku Area. This is also thinnest part of Honshu island: it is only 150 km from the Japanese Sea. Sendai is famous around Japan for its mild climate.
The city has around 1 million ihabitants. It is beautifully incorporated into Nature- nearby the Station it looks like any other Japanese city, but if you go just for two kilmeters westward, you will find yourself surrounded by mountains covered with forest in which wild animals (foxes, boars, mountain goats and bears) are often seen.
Sendai has been founded by Date Masamune (1567-1636) who had built a prosperous town on the place of a small fisher`s village. It was heavily damaged during the World War II, and almost no ancient stone buildings survived until now. The mausoleum of Date Masamune (Zuihoden) has been also destriyed. But this beautiful wooden building was restored; this one of the main tourist attractions of Sendai.
The early March day-time temperatures may be still close to zero.
